King's Shilling Recruiting Party Living History Group

WELCOME!

to the King's Shilling living history group website

The excitement and glory of soldiers' and sailors' lives in the late Georgian period was made as enticing as possible to potential new recruits, with plenty of tales of glorious battles won, trophies and loot taken from the French and the very best food and drink, as well as a smart uniform. Could you resist the lure of taking the King's Shilling?

The King's Shilling group represents the service men of the British army and navy in the later regency period of King George III's reign. Unlike most Napoleonic groups, the King's Shilling shows examples of multiple unit types vying for new recruits. It's a very friendly unit, with members coming from across the UK with a wide variety of living history experience and backgrounds.

The group's uniforms and equipment are based on original examples, contemporary images, and research into uniform regulations to portray as accurate a representation as possible. The group is always working to maintain it's high standards and constantly seeking to improve it's impression using experience as living history interpreters across other time periods to bolster our results.
